Insect bites may be common, especially during the summer months, but thankfully they generally are mild in nature and easy to treat. When bitten, the first step should be to move away from the area to avoid further bites. Once in a safe area, follow the steps below:
Clean the Bite
Remove the stinger (if there is one) and wash the bitten area with soap and water.
Use A Cold Compress
To help prevent and reduce swelling, place ice or a cold compress on the bitten area. If possible, elevate the body part (arm or leg) as this can also help reduce swelling.
Apply Topical Treatments
Use topical treatments to soothe the skin from pain and help minimize itching.
Quick Healing Time
Insect bites should heal in a day or two. If symptoms persist, consult a physician.
